A Stamford elementary school teacher set an example when she selflessly took on the responsibility of caring for the newborn brother of one of her students whose family was stricken with COVID-19.

TEACHER ACTS SELFLESSLY TO CARE FOR NEWBORN WHERE FAMILY SICKENED BY COVID-19

Luciana Lira is an elementary school teacher in Stamford, Connecticut. When she learned that the mother of one of her students was in labor and positive for COVID-19, she agreed to take care of the newborn.

After the healthy newborn boy was delivered, the mother’s health declined and she was placed on a ventilator. Test results revealed that her husband and son were also infected with the virus.

Luciana and her husband, Alex, stepped up and took care of the baby while Luciana also continued her remote teaching responsibilities.

Luciana and her husband continue to care for the newborn while his family recovers and is cleared to bring home their new family member.

In a Facebook post regarding this act of caring, a friend of Luciana said:

“…this unselfish act reminds us that our humanity makes us all essential … to each other. How will each of us respond when we are asked to simply show up and help.”
