A deadly crash on I-95 in Norwalk left a pedestrian dead on Aug. 16. According to Norwalk Police, the pedestrian was struck by a vehicle between exits 15 and 16 on the highway. The fatal collision shut down the highway for several hours. According to local news reports, two men were walking along I-95 shortly before 9:20 p.m. Witnesses called 911 and alerted them to the situation. Before police could arrive, the collision occurred.
“Callers advised that a pedestrian was struck and was now in the left travel lane,” Norwalk Police Sgt. Robert Derry told local news reporters. “Responding troopers established that a 2010 Volkswagen Jetta operated by a 17-year old female from Westport was traveling in the right lane, when she stuck one of the pedestrians.” Police continue to investigate the accident.
In a second pedestrian collision incident that occurred the following day, a hit and run driver struck a 14-year-old boy with a car, fracturing his ribs and leaving him concussed. K’Mauri Jones was crossing Union Avenue from Connecticut Avenue at about 5:30 p.m. when he was struck by a car.
Local media reports described bystanders rushing to help him. From News 12 Connecticut:“”Troy Gosbin, a Best Bet Auto employee, says he and another witness ran over to see if K’Mauri was OK. “I mean, you hit somebody,” says Gosbin. “It’s crazy to me that… you wouldn’t stop and just keep going.” A friend had been playing basketball with K’Mauri and helped get him home nearby. “He was out of it for sure. His friend was carrying him,” says Gosbin.”
K’Mauri’s mother, Shakeema Hodge, urged the driver to come forward, telling News 12: “You hit my child, you left him on the street, and you didn’t give a damn about him; please come forward, you can at least do that,” she says.
